Summer is always a super exciting time at NYSW and this year was no different. Our team finished building 15 new hydroponic science labs and we are thrilled to welcome our new school partners, teachers and students into the NY Sun Works family.

This summer 23 teachers gathered at the greenhouse at PS84, Jose De Diego for our 36 hour training course titled “Water, Waste and Energy – How to bring themes of sustainability into the classroom“. The workshop focuses on supporting teachers to bring engaging and relevant STEM and sustainability education to their students.

Our Sunset BBQ and Lawn Party on Tuesday night turned out to be a truly magical and inspiring evening with 160 people coming together for an urban farm-to-table dinner in support of NY Sun Works and the public schools, teachers and students we serve.

On May 21st at Symphony Space NY Sun Works hosted 54 students from 14 NYC public schools who presented their research on Sustainability Science to a sold-out auditorium of 750 kids and teachers during the the 7th annual NY SUN WORKS Youth Conference. The Conference will also be streamed live, and video presentations will be available on our website this summer.

We were so excited to participate at Columbia University’s 2018 Youth Climate Summit
The yearly Youth Climate Summit is an opportunity for high school students to interface with fellow students and speakers/environmental organizations in a workshop setting focusing on actionable ways to engage in the climate movement.
The NYSW presentation was titled: We Are What You Eat: A conversation about how our food choices & food waste impact the climate.

We had a super fun and inspiring day at PS14 in Queens where a motivated team from Bregal Sagemount brought their families out to build an entire classroom lab on a Saturday.
