Calendula

NUTRITION FACTS

  • Calendula flowers have petals that serve as a source of vitamin C to help strengthen the immune system. 
  • Calendula also has vitamin A to help with vision, immunity, fertility, and growth, as well as a healthy amount of vitamin C.
  • Calendula has antioxidants (flavonoids and carotenoids). Used in homeopathic medicine for a variety of conditions including inflammation.

CALENDULA TEA

Hydroponic Classroom Ingredients:

Additional Ingredients:
Water 

Instructions: 

  1. Peel calendula petals and allow them to dry
  2. Add 1-2 tablespoons of the dried calendula petals to a mug
  3. Bring water to a boil
  4. Pour ~8oz of boiling water into the mug
  5. Cover the mug and steep for 10-15 minutes – enjoy!

CALENDULA FLOWER INFUSED OIL

Calendula flowers

Olive oil or coconut oil (both can be used for cooking, and coconut oil can be used as a skin salve!)

Instructions:

  1. Wilt fresh calendula for 12 hours to remove most of the moisture before adding to the jar.
  2. Fill a glass jar 2/3 of the way full with dried calendula flowers. 
  3. Pour olive oil into the jar, making sure to cover the flowers by at least one inch with oil so they will have space to expand.
  4. Stir well and cap the jar tightly.
  5. Place the jar in a warm, sunny windowsill and shake once or more daily.
  6. After 4 to 6 weeks, strain the herbs out using cheesecloth or fine strainer.
  7. Pour the infused oil into glass bottles and store in a cool, dark place.

1 cup ground oats

1/4 cup baking soda

1/8 cup dried lavender

1/8 cup dried calendula

Instructions:

  1. In a small mixing bowl, add ground oats. (If you haven’t ground your oats yet, then pop them in the blender and blend away now!)
  2. Add in remaining ingredients and stir well.
  3. Store in an airtight container until you are ready to use.
