Youth Press Team Article by Yaleez Sanchez Polanco

On May 23, NY Sun Works held a youth conference at the Jacob Javits Center, and I got to interview two groups of students about their cool projects.

The first group included Denisse, Jonathan, and Stony. Their project was all about finding out if you can use different materials to grow seeds. They were curious about how seeds grow and wanted to see if using different things instead of soil would work. They had some trouble on the day of the presentation, especially when Stony found it hard not to touch the microphone because it was so soft. But overall, they said the best part was presenting their project to everyone.

The second group did a waste audit at their school. This means they looked at how much waste their school produces and tried to figure out ways to reduce it. They were inspired to help their school create less waste. They faced challenges like collecting waste without bothering the classes. However, they thought the most exciting part was working together as a team to collect and analyze the garbage.

Interviewing both groups was amazing. All the students had great projects, and their enthusiasm was really inspiring. We hope to see more fantastic projects next year!
