Elana Mass

Assistant Director of Development, Institutional Giving

Elana comes to NY Sun Works with a passion for sustainable communities and a background in urban and environmental policy. She taught in the Urban Studies department at Long Island University for many years and, as an urban planning consultant, worked with NY metro-area communities to develop their long-range vision for growth and assess the environmental impacts of proposed projects.  Most recently, she’s consulted on grant-writing and outreach around food waste reduction and other sustainability issues.

Elana holds a B.A. in political science from Tufts University and Masters of Urban Planning from NYU.  A long-time New Yorker, she and her family reversed hemispheres and seasons by moving to Auckland, NZ in 2015, where they lived for over two years.  They now live north of the city, where Elana gardens optimistically and is active in her community’s sustainability initiatives.
