Summer training at PS84

This summer 23 teachers gathered at the greenhouse at PS84, Jose De Diego for our 36 hour training course titled “Water, Waste and Energy – How to bring themes of sustainability into the classroom“.  The workshop focuses on  supporting teachers to bring engaging and relevant STEM and sustainability education to their students.

We were excited to bring together a dynamic team of scientists, technicians, urban farmers and environmental advocates both from NY Sun Works own team, as well as guest speakers from our friends at +POOL, NYC H2O, GrowNYC, DOE Sustainability, Farm Sanctuary

The attendees had the opportunity to build hydroponic systems and compost bins for their classrooms, as well as develop lessons they can implement with their students right away. They also went on a field trip to SIMS recycling center.

The course was our 22nd teacher training workshop in partnership with NYC Department of Education’s ASPDP program. ASPDP courses can be taken by NYC teachers and other education professionals for NYC DOE P-credits and professional development hours.
