Youth Press Team Article by Juselys Romero

On May 23, NY Sun Works held a youth conference at the Jacob Javits Center. I interviewed two groups of students with awesome projects.

The first group was called “Hyping Up Hydroponics,” and the team members were Jeyleen, Amy, Tristan, Kai’air, and Skylar. Their project was about teaching people about hydroponics, which is a way to grow plants without soil. The hardest part of their presentation was standing in front of a lot of people. But they loved learning and building their project to show everyone. They believe that hydroponics can help their school and other schools by providing fresh produce and helping feed the community.

The other group I interviewed was “Waste-free Hydroponics Classroom,” and it included Violet, Kellen, and Ro. Their project was inspired by “Waste-free Wednesdays,” a program that encourages recycling and using items that aren’t plastic and can be reused. The most exciting part for them was collecting information for their presentation.

Talking to both groups was a fantastic experience. Their projects were impressive and showed how much they care about improving their schools and communities. I can’t wait to see what they come up with next year!
